Charlie Brown and the NBA Lockout

Charlie Brown and the NBA Lockout

With the rough time Thomas has been having lately, it went right down to the last minute for us to make a decision whether or not we were going to go trick-or-treating. Thomas’ costume ended up being pretty lowkey – a Charlie Brown ghost with too many holes – and Erik decided to go as the NBA lockout. We went to Brookline and hit up Beale street (to give you a sense of how popular this street is we got there about 6:45 and one house was putting up a sign that said “Ran out of candy, 700 served” and I don’t think they were exaggerating.) Reaction to Thomas’ costume was mixed – the people who got it really loved it (one woman stopped her vehicle and had her kids get out to take a picture of him), but a lot of people didn’t get it which makes me sad that “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” just isn’t as prevalent a touchstone as it used to be.

The family is still on the mend from varying degrees of bronchitis and pneumonia, so here are a few Thomas pictures. The Spider-man ones are from a party last weekend (pre-coughing fits). We are hoping to make it out tonight for a street or two of trick or treating, but won’t be doing much.

Thomas had a costume parade at school on Friday, and on Saturday he and I met Erik after work to trick-or-treat a little bit in Brookline. I think it was a bit too busy and overwhelming for Thomas, but he held up pretty well. The pumpkin pictures are from the previous weekend. Sorry about the family pictures-I’m having trouble turning them.

As many of our readers know, there have been two clown costumes in the Beck family for a great many years. We figure that about ten Becks have worn this costume over the last nearly forty years. This year was Thomas’ turn to wear one of them for Halloween. Unfortunately, we don’t have the hat, but he was still adorable. It was universally agreed by his teachers that this was the perfect costume for our funny little boy.

And for those of you who would like a “vintage” look at the costume, here is a picture of Erik wearing it in 1978. It give you a look at the hat also. Sorry I scanned it in rather small at  work yesterday, so there isn’t a bigger version to look at.
